Call for Applications: Two Academic Positions for Assistant or Associate Professor in Integrative Biology

The Faculty of Biological Sciences (FCCBB) at UC Chile invites applications for two full-time Assistant or Associate Professor positions in the Regular Academic Track. Applicants must demonstrate successful and independent research in integrative biology, in areas of modern biology such as computational biology, theoretical biology, population genetics, comparative physiology, genomics and bioinformatics, systems biology, synthetic biology, evolutionary developmental biology, conservation biology, microbial biology, plant biology, biotechnology, among others. They must also have the skills required to teach biology at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as to train young researchers. Specifically, we are searching for researchers with an innovative and interdisciplinary vision, capable of addressing fundamental and applied questions in integrative biology.
UC Chile, founded in 1888, is among the leading universities in Chile and is typically ranked among the top three institutions in the QS Latin America University Rankings. The Faculty of Biological Sciences has 70 professors at different stages of their academic careers and 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
RESPONSIBILITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE POSITION
- Conduct independent, high-quality research—fundamental and/or applied—in integrative biology.
- Establish interactions and collaborations with researchers from other areas, both within FCB and with other academic units inside or outside the University, in order to strengthen interdisciplinary research.
- Teach at undergraduate and graduate levels by delivering theoretical and/or practical classes, and collaborate in the design and innovation of courses for FCB degree programs (Biochemistry, Biology, and Marine Biology), as well as other biology-related programs at the University. If appointed, the candidate must complete the 100-hour University Teaching Program offered by the UC Center for Teaching Development.
- Train professionals and scientists through the supervision of undergraduate theses and doctoral dissertations.
- Obtain competitive external funding to support research activities.
- Participate in academic and administrative activities within the University.
- Carry out outreach and community engagement activities.

Qualifications
- PhD degree and postdoctoral experience.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and lead independent research and to secure extramural research funding.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Academic record, leadership, and quality of scientific output.
- Experience in the use of state-of-the-art, innovative, or interdisciplinary methodologies.
- Expertise in the research area proposed to be developed within the FCCBB.
- Potential impact of the research area to be developed.
- Potential for integration into the academic activities of the FCCBB.
- International impact.
- Teaching experience.
