The Faculty of Letters at UC Chile invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Literature.

Founded in 1888, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile is one of Chile’s leading universities and is usually ranked among the top three universities in Latin America in the QS ranking. At present, the Faculty ranks 27th in the QS World University Ranking by Subject in Modern Languages, in the eleventh edition of the study. This places it among the world’s most prestigious faculties for the study of Literature and Linguistics (https://letras.uc.cl/).

Academic profile

The selected candidate must be a specialist in Latin American literature in dialogue with other worlds or continents, preferably with expertise in theories of world literature. Perspectives from the south will be especially valued, particularly those that include one or more of the following approaches:

  • Dialogues from the Global South and/or South-South
  • Connections, networks, movement, and circulation of ideas, books, and authorship between two or more continents or worlds
  • Interdisciplinary methodologies, for example approaches based on digital humanities, translation, interculturality, among others

The selected candidate must have command of the languages of the continents or worlds on which their research focuses and should preferably be able to demonstrate competence in a third language.

Responsibilities of the position

The selected candidate will contribute to the education of our undergraduate and graduate students, lead research projects with international impact, and carry out service duties in the areas of administration and public engagement.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Literature or in a related discipline. If the PhD is not in Literature, the candidate must hold an undergraduate degree in literary studies or equivalent.
  • University teaching experience.
  • A formal research record appropriate to the applicant’s stage of academic career.
  • Three or more articles published in mainstream indexed journals, such as WoS, Scopus, or equivalent, or a peer-reviewed book relevant to this call.

Foreign nationals without permanent residency in Chile, or applicants applying from abroad, will need to obtain the appropriate visa in their country of origin if selected for the position, in order to join the University’s academic faculty.
