Position Profile: Associate/Assistant Professor in Sustainable Chemistry Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy and the Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD)

Vacancy Profile: The Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, and the Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD) of the UC Chile, call for a vacancy for an Associate/Assistant Professor in Ordinary Academic Staff, with appointment shared between both academic units. The selected candidate will perform teaching, research and outreach activities in the area of Sustainable Chemistry, seeking to promote academic development of excellence in chemical processes in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This vacancy represents a unique opportunity to join both the School of Chemistry and ISD, which together constitute an interdisciplinary and diverse academic team, to promote excellence in the study and application of chemistry from a sustainability perspective, promoting academic work in scientific solutions that favor sustainable development with the highest academic standards.
In Teaching: The selected person will divide his/her teaching load into equal parts between the School of Chemistry and Pharmacy and ISD. This implies that he/she will be expected to teach at least two undergraduate courses, one in the Department of Inorganic Chemistry (School of Chemistry) and one belonging to ISD. In addition, the selected person is expected to formulate and/or participate in at least one graduate and/or elective course related to his/her specific skills in Sustainable Chemistry. All courses must be taught in Spanish.
In research: The selected person should promote and strengthen research lines in the discipline of Sustainable Chemistry, oriented to the study of sustainable chemical procedures such as green chemistry, sustainable materials development, environmental analytical chemistry, environmental remediation or chemistry applied to sustainable agriculture; as well as applied research in one of the ISD research areas linked to the various components of socio-environmental systems, integrating for example natural resources, climate change and ecological transition. The selected person will be expected to formulate and lead externally funded research projects, publish the results of his/her research in indexed mainstream journals (WoS and SCOPUS) and generate national and international collaborative networks in an inter and/or transdisciplinary context. In addition, from their teaching and research work they must develop links with the community and support the technology transfer of the products developed during the research according to the standards established by the UC Chile.
In connection with the environment: From its academic work, to promote projects of real impact on society and industry, contributing to the transfer of knowledge and technology in areas of sustainable chemistry, aligned with the ethical and scientific standards of the UC Chile.
Profile: The applicant must have a PhD degree in Chemistry or related area at the time of hiring. The applicant must have experience in basic or applied research in the area of Sustainable Chemistry, demonstrable through scientific publications, externally funded research projects and national and international networks. It is desirable that he/she has teaching experience in the area described above and a good command of Spanish and English language skills. The applicant is expected to possess qualities of proactivity, leadership and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, building their work between both academic units.
