INSTITUTIONAL CONTEXT

Founded on September 17, 1929, the School of Social Work at UC Chile is one of the oldest in Latin America, with 96 years of experience in training professionals committed to social transformation and collective well-being.
Since 1992, the School of Social Work at UC Chile has offered an undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. At the graduate level, it has offered a Master’s degree in Social Work since 2003 and a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work since 2021. As part of its commitment to lifelong learning, our School also offers various continuing education programs focused on specialization in diverse areas of professional practice.
The School’s faculty members are highly qualified, their profile reflects the university’s strong commitment with first-level research and teaching. They are actively involved in teaching and outreach to society activities, they also contribute from their academic and professional expertise to our School’s core areas of critical reflection and knowledge production.
In line with its solid academic foundations, the School’s research activities are organized around the
following areas:
- Socio-legal Social Work: Focused on social phenomena with legal components, such as access to justice, social reintegration, victimization, gender-based violence, and rights violations. It promotes an interdisciplinary, intersectional, gender-sensitive, and human rights-based approach.
- Organizational Social Work: It deals with the study and intervention in social, managerial and labour dynamics within organizations, considering both human relations and the institutional
context. It is based on tools from different disciplines, promoting a transversal and comprehensive professional intervention. - Inclusive Social Work: Analyses the historical, political, economic and socio-cultural processes that generate privilege or discrimination, and their effects on exclusion as well as possibilities for transformation. This research area focuses on inequalities linked to education, gender, territory, age, ethnicity, nationality and social movements.
- Clinical Social Work: It guides the training of professionals in clinical interventions specializing in mental health, grief, violence, and parenting, incorporating gender and cultural perspectives. It aims to provide therapeutic support and enhance individuals’ access to resources that contribute to improving their well-being.
The School of Social Work at UC Chile is seeking applications for two full-time positions (44 hours/week) and one part-time position (33 hours/week) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure-track).
As far as research activities are concerned, we expect applicants with publications in high-standard, peer-reviewed international journals. Capacity for collaborative work, organizational and skills and interest for academic administration are appreciated.
Incoming faculty members will have a mixed academic profile as described below, in compliance with the School of Social Work’s norms (Normas complementarias, DR 130/2023):
- Full-time positions (44 hours/week) require: 22 hours/week for teaching (50%), 18 hours/week for research (40%), and 4 hours/week for academic management and/or community engagement (10%). This corresponds to teaching four courses per year (at least one at the undergraduate level), in addition to other teaching activities such as thesis supervision. Research activities include publishing papers in high level journals, book chapters, books, and applying to local, national and/or international research grants.
- Part-time position (33 hours/week) requires: 16.5 hours/week for teaching (50%), 13.5 hours/week for research (40%), and 3 hours/week for academic management and/or community engagement (10%). This includes teaching three courses per year or two courses (at least one at the undergraduate level) plus additional teaching tasks such as thesis supervision. Research activities include publishing papers in high level journals, book chapters, books, and applying to local, national and/or international research grants.
- This is an open call for both Chilean and international applicants. For international candidates, advanced Spanish proficiency is required at the time of application. Full fluency is expected within two years.
- Availability: The selected candidate(s) should preferably be incorporated during the second semester of 2025.
- The position is based at the School of Social Work on the San Joaquín Campus – Av. Vicuña Mackenna 4860, Macul, Santiago, Chile.
Qualifications
Scholars with an academic background in Social Work—either at graduate (Bachelor’s degree) or postgraduate level (Master’s and/or PhD)—who have significant experience in research and teaching activities with both undergraduate and graduate students, in at least one of the four areas of specialization outlined above.
Applicants shall demonstrate experience in teaching and positive evaluations from students reflecting high-quality and student-centered methodologies. In particular, commitment to teaching innovation, including the use of active methodologies and technology, is expected.

2. Complete curriculum vitae.
3.Up to 3 syllabi dossiers for courses previously taught by the applicant.
4. One sample of a relevant publication (published/accepted/submitted article or book) according to the applicant’s academic standards.
5. Two letters of recommendation (not from ETSUC faculty), to be sent directly by the referees.
6. Copies of diplomas and academic degrees, including the official PhD certificate. Applicants must have obtained the PhD by the start of the position.
7. Copies of teaching evaluations from the last three years, if available. If not available, please provide a justification.
