CALL FOR ACADEMIC POSITION
The Department of Psychology of the UC Chile has opened a competition for a tenure-track full-time position for an assistant or associate professor¹ in educational psychology with research and teaching work shared with the Special Education Pedagogy Program² .
Since its creation in 1957, the Department of Psychology of the UC Chile has trained more than 5,000 professionals. Currently, the Department is made up of 40 tenure track professors, 9 from a special teaching track, 12 adjunct professors, and approximately 900 undergraduate and 120 graduate students.
At the undergraduate level, it offers a bachelor’s degree in psychology and awards the title of Psychologist within five professional fields: clinical, work, educational, community, and health. At the graduate level, it offers three doctoral programs (psychology, psychotherapy, and neuroscience) and four master’s programs (clinical, educational, health, strategic people management and organizational behavior).
Tenure track professors are dedicated to teaching and research. Part of their research work is carried out with interdisciplinary teams such as the Center for Social Conflict and Cohesion Studies (COES), the Center for Indigenous and Intercultural Research (CIIR), the Measurement Center (MIDE), the Center for Inclusion Technologies (CEDETI), the Research Center for Integrated Disaster Risk Management (CIGIDEN), theMillennium Institute for Research in Depression and Personality (MIDAP), the Center for Research on Abuse and Early Adversity (CUIDA), the Millennium Institute on Violence and Democracy Research (VIODEMOS), among other research centers.
The Special Education Pedagogy Program was established in 2023 as an interfaculty initiative, involving both the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Social Sciences, through the Department of Psychology. The curriculum for the Special Education Pedagogy Program includes several undergraduate courses that overlap with the bachelor’s degree in psychology. Additionally, it features courses specifically designed for Special Education, some of which are taught by faculty from the Department of Psychology.
We are looking for an academic with a PhD to engage in research, teaching, and outreach in applied measurement within educational or developmental psychology. We highly value candidates who have knowledge and experience in developing psychological assessment instruments and tools, as well as neuropsychological assessments. Additionally, expertise in advanced psychometric analysis and conducting validation studies related to interventions or psychological development assessments is essential.
Applicants should possess a strong quantitative background, including proficiency in advanced psychometric analyses such as structural equation modeling, item response theory, and longitudinal analysis. They should also have experience using specialized statistical software for applied research in educational or developmental psychology. Applicants should show their ability to lead quantitative research projects, create measurement instruments that are supported by empirical evidence, and collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams. This should be done with a strong emphasis on methodological rigor, especially in the study of psychological development trajectories or in the early identification and assessment of developmental disorders.
The chosen candidate must dedicate 50% of their working hours to teaching, which equates to teaching either four courses per year or three courses along with additional teaching responsibilities (such as supervising master’s and doctoral theses). In the first year of employment, only one course per semester is required. Candidates are also expected to develop research with external funding and supervise Master’s and/or Doctorate thesis.
The individual selected for this position will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Psychology and Special Education programs. These courses may include Research Methodologies in Psychology (PSI1203), Quantitative Research Methods (PSI2301), Psychological Assessment I and II (PSI2400, PSI2405), Design and Evaluation of Educational Programs (PSI3502), as well as courses in psychometrics and measurement at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
¹Depending on the background of the person selected, categorization as an assistant or associate professor will be determined.
²The Department of Psychology at the UC Chile has announced three competition opportunities: one for a tenure-track full-time position (focused on Developmental Psychology, Special and Inclusive Education), another for a 33-hour lecturer position (focused on School Coexistence), and the current competition. All these positions are related to academic activities within the Department of Psychology and the Special Education Pedagogy Program.
