UC Chile invites applications for a full – time tenure-track faculty position at the Institute of Physics, in Quantum Information Science, at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.
Job Profile
We seek an outstanding researcher with a PhD in Physics, Engineering or a related field, and an international research profile in quantum information science. The ideal candidate will have a strong record in quantum computing, including but not limited to:
- Theory: quantum algorithms, quantum information theory, quantum error correction, or quantum control theory.
- Experiment: quantum processor development using platforms such as trapped ions, superconducting circuits, quantum optics, cold atoms, or solid-state systems.
Beyond technical excellence, the candidate will possess strong leadership and communication skills, a demonstrated ability to present research at leading international conferences, and experience in supervising students and leading research projects.
A key priority is the ability to actively integrate with and enhance our current quantum research activities, while building synergies within the university and with external partners at all levels.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Contribute to the growth and consolidation of an internationally competitive, independent research program in quantum computing.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate physics courses.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
- Collaborate actively with Physics Faculty members.
- Secure external funding to support their research group and infrastructure.
- Engage in outreach and science communication activities to promote quantum computing to broader audiences.
- Promote the growth, visibility, and national and international recognition of the quantum computing group through high-quality research, active participation in academic networks, and dissemination activities.
- Foster interaction between academia, industry, and government in the field of quantum computing to promote collaborative research, technology transfer, and innovation.
Additional contributions to academic leadership, scientific outreach, and research management may be considered depending on the candidate’s background and experience.
Appointment rank and salary will be determined according to the current university policies and regulations in place at the time of hiring.

Qualifications
Academic Degree:
- PhD in Physics, Engineering or a related field with a specialization in quantum computing.
Teaching Experience:
- Desirable experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate physics courses.
Research Experience:
- Outstanding research record demonstrated through international scientific projects participation and paper publications in the area.
Availability:
- Position will start in March 2026.

Selection Process
Applications will be evaluated by the Dean’s Advisory Committee for the Incorporation of Faculty Members of the Faculty of Physics. Final selections must be approved by the Faculty Council. For applicants considered for the Associate Professor rank, their dossiers must also be evaluated by the Central Associate Professors Committee.
