The School of Government at UC Chile invites applications for two full-time tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. This call is primarily aimed at early-career researchers with an interest in conducting high-quality research and teaching on topics relevant to public policy. Exceptionally, applications from more senior scholars will be considered.

The School of Government is an interdisciplinary academic unit, composed of faculty with backgrounds in public policy, public administration, economics, political science, sociology, law, engineering, and related fields. Its work is based on the conviction that public problems require innovative, rigorous, collaborative, and interdisciplinary approaches grounded in academic excellence.

This is a broad call for applications, aimed at strengthening and expanding the School’s current lines of work. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Institutions and quality of democratic governance
  • Social inequalities and social policy
  • Crime and public safety
  • State management and public administration
  • Fiscal policy and effectiveness of public spending
  • Climate change adaptation and sustainable development
  • Economic and social development
  • Technology, artificial intelligence, and public policy

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (or be close to completion) in a discipline relevant to public policy. The call is open to a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds, including economics, law, political science, sociology, public administration, public policy, engineering, and other areas related to the study of government and public policy.

  • Commitment to evidence-based public policy
  • Ability to work and collaborate in interdisciplinary teams
  • Prior teaching experience (appropriate to career stage)
  • Academic leadership, initiative, and a collaborative spirit

Academic Expectations

Faculty appointments are governed by the regulations and policies of UC Chile and the School of Government, including the University’s Regulations of the Academic (Reglamento del Académico).

In general, appointed faculty members are expected to:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in both general and specialized areas (standard teaching load is three courses per year). Spanish fluency is not required at the time of application, but candidates should be prepared to teach in Spanish in the short term.
  • Supervise theses or final graduation projects.
  • Develop an independent research agenda with external funding.
  • Maintain a sustained record of high-quality academic publications and research projects.

Applicants must submit the following documents through the application link below:

  1. Full curriculum vitae, including a list of research projects and publications.
  2. A representative publication, showcasing work relevant to the call (or a core chapter/article from the Ph.D. dissertation for applicants nearing completion).
  3. Personal statement (max. 2 pages), including:
    • Academic interests and trajectory in research and teaching.
    • Motivation to join UC Chile and the School of Government.
    • Expected contributions to UC Chile community, in light of its institutional mission (see here).

4. Brief academic proposal (max. 2 pages), outlining:

    • General description of planned research agenda over the coming years.
    • Teaching areas or courses the candidate could offer.
    • How the applicant’s work aligns with the School of Government’s mission and priorities.

5. Copy of Ph.D. diploma, or an official letter from the doctoral program confirming completion of all degree requirements.

6. Two confidential letters of recommendation, addressed to the Hiring Committee of the School of Government. Contact information for referees must be included in the application form. Letters should be sent directly by the referees through the link received.

7. Copies of teaching evaluations, if available.

International candidates selected for the position must obtain the appropriate visa to join the academic staff.
