Call for Academic Position in Clinical Psychology

The Department of Psychology of the UC Chile has opened a competition for a 33-hour position for an assistant or associate professor in Clinical Psychology, in topics related to mental health and wellbeing, in the special teaching track in the category of the practice or the profession.

Since its creation in 1957, the Department of Psychology of the UC Chile has trained more than 5,000 professionals. Currently, the Department is made up of 39 tenure track professors and 9 from a special teaching track, and approximately 900 undergraduate and 120 graduate students.

At the undergraduate level, it offers a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and awards the title of Psychologist within five professional fields: clinical, organizational, educational, community, and health. At the graduate level, it offers three doctoral programs (psychology, psychotherapy, and neuroscience) and four master’s programs (clinical, educational, health, strategic people management and organizational behavior).

Its faculty is dedicated to teaching and research. Part of their research work is carried out with interdisciplinary teams such as the Center for Social Conflict and Cohesion Studies (COES), the Center for Indigenous and Intercultural Research (CIIR), the Measurement Center (MIDE), the Center for Inclusion Technologies (CEDETI), the Research Center for Integrated Disaster Risk Management (CIGIDEN), the Millennium Institute for Research in Depression and Personality (MIDAP), the Center for Research on Abuse and Early Adversity (CUIDA), the Millennium Institute on Violence and Democracy Research (VIODEMOS), among other research centers.

We are looking for applicants interested in undergraduate and graduate teaching in clinical psychology, based on their learning and skills acquired through their professional practice and psychological science. The candidates should have postgraduate training (master or PhD) in clinical psychology or related fields. The selected applicant should have teaching experience at college level, clinical supervision and professional experience in topics related to mental health and wellbeing and will join the teaching teams of the Department of Psychology in these fields. It is expected that applicants have knowledge regarding the Chilean health system. Applicants should also be fluent in Spanish and English.

The selected person will be required to dedicated 75% of his/her working time to teaching, 10% to administrative/management duties, and 15% to research, although this last activity is optional and might be transferable to teaching, administrative or outreach activities. During the first year of incorporation, only 1 course per semester will be required, along with clinical supervisions.

Additionally, previous teaching experience, proactivity, leadership, interdisciplinary teamwork skills, and previous collaborative work will be valued. All these antecedents will be assessed taking into consideration the stage of the academic/professional career of the candidate.

Availability: Incorporate during the first semester of 2025 (March-June).

  • Complete Curriculum Vitae, including teaching experience, and eventually research and publications.
  • Written justification of the interest of the candidate for the position, including a brief history of his/her professional and teaching career. It is also expected to report the interest in this University and Department, and indicate what contributions are expected to make to the UC University nnd Department Community, considering its areas of development and mission (maximum 3 letter-size pages).
  • Academic proposal in teaching to be developed at the UC Department of Psychology, which accounts for the candidate’s interests and topics to be addressed from clinical psychology, as well as the way in which they expect to develop their work as a teacher at the undergraduate (bachelor’s), professional track and master level, considering the academic/professional training offered by the Department of Psychology (maximum 4 letter size pages).
  • Proposal for activities related to outreach from the area of expertise. If they exist, indicate public or private institutions with which the applicant is or has collaborated that could facilitate the establishment of links with the Department of Psychology (maximum 2 letter-sized pages).
  • Certificate of registration in the Chilean National Registry of Individual Health Providers issued by the Health Superintendency, or justification of its absence with a schedule for obtaining it.
  • Copy of the certificate of the Master and/or Doctoral degree.
  • Three confidential letters of reference, which must be sent directly to direccionepuc@uc.cl, indicating in the subject “Letters of recommendation position in Clinical Psychology”.
  • Copy of the teaching evaluations obtained in this or other institutions. In the case you don´t have them, explain the reasons.
