The School of Civil Construction of the Faculty of Engineering at UC Chile invites outstanding candidates to apply for a full-time faculty position in Construction Technology and Automation. While this position is primarily intended for Assistant Professor-level candidates, exceptional applications from Associate Professor-level candidates are also welcome.
Duties
Responsibilities include primarily high-quality teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducting independent research. Additional duties may focus on knowledge transfer, outreach, student counseling, and/or participation in university administrative tasks. The new position in Construction Technology and Automation is expected to conduct research in areas such as:
● Automation and robotics in construction processes
● Computer vision in the AEC industry
● Smart construction technologies
● Development and/or application of augmented reality to civil construction
● Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing)
● Development and/or application artificial intelligence in civil construction
● New emerging technologies applicable to civil construction

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in a related discipline (e.g., engineering sciences, building, construction engineering, civil engineering, industrial engineering, architectural engineering, architecture) by the time of hiring. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of our School, the applicant will have opportunities and should be willing to work collaboratively with other academic units. The application should state previous postdoctoral or international academic experience.
Candidates do not need to be fluent in Spanish at the time of application. However, they should be prepared to learn the language well enough to teach in Spanish in the short term (two years maximum). English proficiency is a requirement.
Applicants must demonstrate a solid commitment to all aspects of academic life and the public good of the institution. They must be highly motivated to improve their teaching skills continuously, have a genuine interest in getting involved with the graduate programs (especially the doctoral program), and be able to develop and maintain an active research agenda leading to high-quality publications, securing research grants, generating and participating in interdisciplinary projects, leading scientific and industry-liaison initiatives, strengthening and creating national and international academic networks, etc. The candidate will also be expected to create new undergraduate and graduate courses as well as teaching traditional courses in related areas.
If a foreign candidate is selected for the faculty position without residence permit, he or she is strongly encouraged to initiate application for an appropriate Chilean visa in the country of their origin.

Application instructions
Applicants should submit the following documents to hmesa@uc.cl (in the email subject line, please indicate: Faculty position in Construction Technology and Automation; see Note A) by August 30th, 2026 (late applications will be considered until the position is filled).
1. A research statement (in English) indicating the applicant’s immediate and long-term research goals, potential collaboration networks with other researchers, and plans for interactions with scientists in Chile and other countries.
2. A teaching statement (in English) explaining why the applicant should be considered for the position and the plans for teaching. The applicant should provide specific examples of the plan to transfer knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students.
3. An updated curriculum vitae (in English, see Note B).
4. If available, copies of five recent Web of Science publications relevant to the application’s context (see Note C).
5. At least three letters of recommendation, which must be emailed directly by the signatories to the Director of Research, Prof. Harrison Mesa, hmesa@uc.cl
Note A:
The applicant will receive an acknowledgment confirming that the documents have been received.
Note B:
The CV must be organized as follows:
i. Personal information: name, address, contact telephone number (with country and city codes), email address, web page (if any).
ii. Education: all academic and professional degrees, indicating the granting institutions and dates. If the applicant is currently enrolled in a doctoral program, please indicate the expected date for the degree.
iii. Educational experience (University or institution, courses taught, and years).
iv. Professional experience (employer, duties, years).
v. Research:
a. List of Web of Science journal publications (see note C).
b. List of other publications such as reports, books or book chapters, conferences attended, research projects participated in, patents, etc.
vi. Additional information: awards, computer skills, languages, and any other relevant background information.
Note C:
Please avoid padding the list with publications that are not indexed in the Web of Science database, such as conference presentations, and others.
Once all the application materials have been received, the applicant will be notified within two months whether the application has been accepted for further consideration. If this initial screening is successful, the candidate will be asked to continue the process following the steps described in Appendix 1.
Appendix 1. Application steps
1) Interviews/Seminar:
a. Interview with the Dean of the Engineering Faculty
b. Interview with board members of the School of Civil Construction
c. Interview with the Selection Committee
d. Psychological Interview
e. Seminar (open to members of the School of Civil Construction)
The interviews and the seminar are generally carried out within a week.
2) Selection of the final candidate by the School and the Selection Committee.
3) Ratification of the selected candidate by the School Council.
4) Notification - The selected candidate will receive an offer letter.
The process, from interviews to final resolution, usually takes around two months.
