Call for Applications: Academic Position for Assistant or Associate Professor in Translational Research and Genomics – School of Medicine

The School of Medicine at UC Chile invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in Translational Research and Genomics. This position aims to strengthen interdisciplinary research and teaching in human genomics or epigenomics, gene editing and cell engineering, personalized therapies, and the integration of molecular profiling into healthcare.

The appointee will be expected to demonstrate independent and collaborative research excellence, teach undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to the training of new scientists.

The selected candidate will join a rapidly growing research environment supported by the UC Center for Medical Research and Innovation (CIIM), the UC-CHRISTUS Health Network, and several institutional core facilities. These include next-generation sequencing platforms, advanced microscopy, flow cytometry, biobanking facilities, and access to unique patient cohorts and population databases.

Role description:

This position is part of a strategic institutional effort to consolidate precision medicine and translational genomics at UC Chile, strengthening the integration between basic science and clinical practice across oncology, infectious diseases, neurosciences, and complex chronic conditions. The successful candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized research program in genomics with translational applications in human health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead original research in human genomics and translational research in human health.
  • Collaborate with clinical and basic science researchers at the School of Medicine and affiliated faculties.
  • Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in areas such as molecular medicine, gene editing, genomics and epigenomics in healthcare research.
  • Contribute to the development of interdisciplinary courses and academic programs.
  • Seek and obtain competitive national and international research funding.
  • Participate in outreach and science communication activities and contribute to public engagement in science and health.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MD/PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Medicine, Genomics or related disciplines.
  • Strong research track record in areas such as precision medicine, human genomics and epigenomics, gene editing and cell engineering, personalized therapies, and the integration of molecular profiling into healthcare transcriptomics, or related fields with an emphasis on translational research.
  • Proven record of high impact peer-reviewed publications and external funding (or strong potential for it).
  • Interest and ability to contribute to graduate and doctoral training.
  • Demonstrated English proficiency; ability to teach in Spanish within two years is expected.

Applicants of foreign nationality applying from abroad, if selected, will be required to have the corresponding visa, obtained from the Chilean consulate in their country of origin, in order to join the University’s academic staff.
