Call for Applications: Position of Assistant Professor (Full-Time) of Anthropology

The School of Anthropology at UC Chile invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Professor of Anthropology.
We are looking for an academic with an outstanding background in anthropology or related fields and with the ability to generate public impact. The candidate will teach both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, conduct research, and fulfill faculty service and outreach activities.
Academic Profile
- Research on contemporary issues in public anthropology such as inequality, migration, gender, health, environment, technology or other areas of high relevance to Chile, through inter- and transdisciplinary perspectives.
- Commitment to high-level teaching that prioritizes education in ethics and civic responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience in social engagement and the transfer/exchange of knowledge with communities, public institutions and social organizations.
- Active collaboration(s) with national and international research centers. Demonstrated capacity for the development, coordination and execution of interdisciplinary projects. Demonstrated experience obtaining highly competitive international grants. Experience in maintaining and developing academic networks and international collaborations.
Candidates must have obtained their doctorate degree from 2010 onwards. However, we are willing to consider candidates who received their doctorate degree beginning in 2008 due to maternity leave, paternity leave and/or health reasons. Candidates must demonstrate experience in line with their career stage, excellence and teaching vocation. We also expect a strong commitment to an ethical and well-rounded education.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to produce high-quality research and obtain national and international research funding in the short to medium term. We seek candidates with publications in relevant national and international peer-reviewed scientific journals. We will also highly value teamwork and organization skills needed to carry out administrative and outreach activities.
Teaching duties will consist of three semester-long courses per academic year, at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. Responsibilities will also include directing thesis workshops and participating in undergraduate/postgraduate commissions.
Administrative duties will include regular participation in academic committees within the School, Faculty or University.
This job opening is open to both Chilean citizens and international applicants.
The University will provide funding for early career research during the first year, subject to application.
Availability: July 2026 start.
The position will be based at Campus San Joaquin (Santiago, Chile).

3. Dossier including courses taught and teaching assessment results over the last three years (if available).
4. A copy of three academic articles, textbook chapters, and/or books relevant to your research focus and interests.
5. Proposed course on public anthropology linked to sustainable development goals, public policy development, the fight against poverty, community relations, interculturality, and/or other topics of public interest.
6. Two letters of recommendation (which cannot be written by current academics at the UC School of Anthropology). The letters are to be sent directly from the recommenders to antropologia@uc.cl
7. Copies of certificates, titles, and academic degrees, including a copy of your official doctorate degree certificate (the candidates must have obtained the degree at the time of application).
