The Faculty of Theology of the UC Chile invites applications for the academic position of Assistant Professor with tenure track with a specialty in Fundamental Theology, starting March 1st, 2026. The position is full-time (44 hours per week) with a competitive salary and an indefinite contract, for a first period of permanence in the position of three years.
Job Description
The selected candidate will work in the three main areas contemplated in the UC Academic Regulations:
- Teaching or training of people: The selected candidate will participate in the teaching programs taught by the Faculty, according to the needs of the moment: Licence in Theology (Canonical Baccalaureatus), Master in Theology (Canonical Licentia), Doctorate in Theology, introductory courses to theology for the UC General Formation program (Core curriculum), diplomas and other continuing education activities. The selected candidate will also be able to accompany the research of master’s and doctoral students. Depending on the profile of the selected candidate, there may be an initial period of one or two semesters without teaching assignment for the learning or consolidation of the Spanish language, and integration into UC Chile.
- Research: Develop research projects in the candidate’s discipline, applying to formal competitions of the UC Chile, of the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), or of other national and international bodies. Likewise, the selected candidate is expected to periodically publish the results of his/her research in indexed scientific journals or recognized academic publishers, according to current standards.
- Service to the University project: The selected candidate will be available to assume institutional management positions, such as membership in curricular committees, governing councils, the direction or deputy direction of a teaching program or other responsibilities in this area. He/She will contribute to the Office of Community Engagement, with proposals for extracurricular activities for the dissemination of knowledge.
Desired profile
The postulant should be able to collaborate with the other professors of Fundamental Theology, being able to teach some of the subjects of the Licence in Theology and Seminars of studies in the area of fundamental theology for the Master in Theology.
Among possible lines of research, an up-to-date attention to the most central problems of fundamental theology is desirable.

The Faculty of Theology of UC Chile, governed by the UC’s own Regulations and the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis Gaudium, was inaugurated in 1935 thanks to the joint effort of the Chilean Church and the Holy See, becoming the first canonical Faculty and the first center of higher religious studies in Latin America. With its team of professors and researchers, plural, enthusiastic and constantly growing, the Faculty continues to be one of the main centers of theological training and research in Latin America. It is a fundamental part of the UC’s training proposal, giving general formation (core curriculum) courses in theology to all students of the various careers, and collaborating in interdisciplinary dialogue.
The Faculty building is located in the heart of the San Joaquín Campus, sharing more than 500,000 m2 of study and leisure spaces with several other Faculties of the University. It has a specialized library, outstanding at the regional level, with a collection of 141,230 physical volumes and approximately 400,000 ebooks, in addition to subscriptions to the main databases and digital publications of the discipline.
Tenure track academics, throughout their career, receive support from the University to train in university teaching, apply for national and international research funds, be promoted from Assistant professors to Associate professors and Tenured professors, according to their objective merits.

Qualifications
The applicants should:
- Preferably possess a canonical doctorate in Theology with a specialization in Fundamental Theology, or its equivalent. If the doctorate is not canonical, at least the canonical Licentia (STL) is required.
- To give an account of their experience in teaching and research in Fundamental Theology, through a Curriculum Vitae that includes a list of publications and scientific activities, among other relevant elements.
- To comply with the requirements of the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis Gaudium art. 25-27: honesty of life and full communion with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.
- Adhere to UC Chile values and the Apostolic Constitution Ex corde Ecclesiae.
- In the case of a diocesan cleric, a religious man or a religious woman, the consent of the diocesan ordinary, hierarchy or superior is required.

The applicants should justify that they meet the application requirements by sending the documentation listed below to the Director of Academic Management of the Faculty of Theology, Denisse Lassnibatt, at the email docenciateologia@uc.cl:
- Cover letter explaining motivation, addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Theology.
- Curriculum vitae et studiorum.
- Certificates or diplomas of the academic degrees obtained.
- Two letters of academic recommendation (the authors of the letters will mention their eventual affiliation and academic titles and their contact details).
- Selection of three relevant publications from the last five years in electronic format.
- For priests, men and women religious and members of Institutes of Consecrated Life, a letter of support from the ordinary himself, approving the nomination and the minimum period of permanence to exercise the office (3 years).
- A candidate of foreign nationality applying from abroad, in case of being selected for the position, will require the corresponding visa, obtained from the consulate of Chile in the country of origin, for incorporation into the academic staff of the University. The faculty will transmit instructions in a timely manner on the type of visa and the promise of hiring letter necessary to apply for it. The selected candidate will also be put in contact with the Vice-Rectory for International Affairs to begin an accompaniment program.

Application instructions
Applications will be received from October 15th to November 15th, 2025.
Once compliance with the application requirements has been verified, the candidacies will be submitted to the prior review of the Grand Chancellor of the University, the Archbishop of Santiago de Chile. The Academic Evaluation Commission, formed by two professors and the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, along with two professors from other faculties of the UC Chile, will review the candidacies with the help of an academic representative of the area of Fundamental Theology studies, and will select a list of candidates to be interviewed (face-to-face or by videoconference). As the jury of the competition, this Commission will determine the most suitable candidate for the position.
