The School of Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine of  UC Chile invites outstanding applicants to submit their credentials for a full-time (44 hours/week) position as Assistant or Associate Professor. Applicants must demonstrate experience and competencies to excel in the fields of research and teaching in Public Health. Both national and international candidates are welcome.

The UC School of Public Health was founded on April 29, 2024, following more than five decades of disciplinary development within the Faculty of Medicine at UC Chile. It is committed to excellence in population research, education, outreach, and engagement, with a strong emphasis on contributing to public health and well-being through the development and transformation of health policies and programs. The school collaborates with other UC schools and faculties, as well as with a wide range of institutions nationally and internationally. It offers four Master’s programs, a PhD in Epidemiology, and a Medical Specialty Residency in Public Health. These programs and its research provide a stimulating, high-quality academic and scientific environment for students and the broader community.

Position Profile

We seek an excellent professional dedicated to research and teaching in Health Administration, Health Economics, or Health Policy.

Applicants should possess a high level of academic training and demonstrate advanced competencies in teamwork, analytical thinking, problem-solving, commitment, proactivity, leadership, communication, and innovation.

Candidates must be genuinely interested in contributing to the growth of the Health Administration, Health Economics, and Health Policy area of the UC School of Public Health, and in collaborating to develop new academic projects. They must also maintain an active research agenda in the field, producing relevant knowledge and high-quality publications. Participation in interdisciplinary projects, leadership in scientific initiatives, and building national and international academic networks is also expected. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and progressively engage in outreach and engagement activities. They must be committed to the core values of Public Health, including equity, human rights, inclusion, and sustainable development.

Contract Type

The selected candidate will be hired on a fixed-term contract for an initial period of 12 months. After this period, the possibility of contract extension and conversion to permanent status will be evaluated. Upon signing the initial contract, the candidate must undergo the Academic Evaluation Committee process to be formally appointed as Assistant or Associate Professor. This evaluation process is independent, and the outcome cannot be guaranteed at the time of hiring.

Qualifications

  • University professional degree
  • PhD or specialist in Public Health, with a demonstrated focus on Health Administration, Health Economics, or Health Policy.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Chile.
  • Familiarity with the Chilean health system and its regulations.
  • High-level English proficiency.
  • Sufficient Spanish proficiency to begin teaching in Spanish in the short term.
  • Availability to start on Monday, March 2, 2026.
  • Participation in research projects and scientific publications in this field, published in nationally or internationally recognized academic journals.
  • Desirable:
    • Professional experience in Public Health, particularly in Health Administration, Health Economics, or Health Policy. Relevant areas include: health systems and services, health policy, operational management of healthcare organizations, hospital or outpatient system management, health economics, strategic healthcare leadership, public policy design, quality and patient safety, leadership, data science and AI applied to health administration, and health program/policy implementation and evaluation.
    • Teaching experience at university level in these fields.
    • Academic management experience.

  • Updated CV, with official or certified copies of degrees.
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate transcripts.
  • Copies of academic degrees.
  • Cover letter including motivation, areas of interest, and future goals, which must include:
    • A statement of research development and a 5-year plan, detailing immediate and long-term objectives, collaboration networks, and plans for interaction with researchers in Chile and abroad.
    • A teaching development statement explaining why the candidate should be considered, and what courses they could teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Be as specific as possible with examples.
    • A personal and interpersonal skills statement related to the role.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professionals in Public Health, focusing on Health Administration, Health Economics, or Health Policy.
  • Copies of five relevant publications (preferably indexed in Web of Science or Scopus or other relevant database).
  • Copy of national ID (both sides) or passport.
  • Certificate or evidence of high-level English proficiency.

Application instructions

Applications will be accepted from Monday, August 18, 2025, to Monday, December 1, 2025.

The selection process will be governed by the regulations stipulated  in the Academic Regulations of UC Chile.

Applicants agree to undergo evaluation of their competencies and experience, and to participate in relevant selection processes, whether in person or online.

Selection stages include:

  • Submission of application using the required form.
  • Pre-selection based on evaluation of credentials.
  • Interviews.
  • Psychological evaluation.
  • Shortlisting of three candidates.
  • Public lecture (20-minute presentation plus discussion with questions from the selection committee) on a technical topic of the candidate’s choice in Health Administration, Health Economics, or Health Policy.
  • Final decision and notification of result.
